Uruguay
Best described as a labyrinth, this sprawling hotel and museum was built without any plans or design.
Built by the artist Carlos Paez Vilaro, the massive Casapueblo Museum is one of the most unique spaces for art you can find. Vilaro instructed the workers to use simple tools, and no architectural plans to build freely, which was influenced by the Uruguayan nest-making bird, ‘hornero’. The Mediterranean influence has also been an iconic visual factor with the pure white and blue roofs standing out against the hills it is set upon. Over the years it expanded to what it is now, a hotel and a museum. The museum contains various artworks from the late artist, ranging pottery and sculpture, to mural painting and architecture, all of which is as unique as the space its exhibited in.
