From Naples to Positano: travel tips

Ahead of your transfer from Naples to Positano, there are a few travel tips that can help you to maximize your safety and comfort en route.

Select a reputable car service

Choosing a reliable private car service provider like Daytrip is key to an enjoyable journey. Your safety and comfort are paramount, and our fleet of well-maintained vehicles and expert drivers provide unmatched convenience and enjoyment to travelers.

Timing is key

To ensure timely transfers, we advise travelers to depart early in the day to leave plenty of time for sightseeing tours and offset unexpected traffic conditions. This is especially important for those using the private car service from Naples Airport, where congested traffic conditions can often occur.

Communicate delays with your driver

Daytrip’s flexible booking and responsive drivers mean you don’t have to worry if your flight plans get disrupted. Delays happen, and getting in touch with our team is the easiest way to ensure you’re not stuck with a long wait in the arrivals hall at Naples Capodichino Airport after your flight. We will do our best to adjust your reservation where possible or point you toward alternative transportation.

How to get from Naples to Positano

There are a few transport options to explore for your transfer from Naples to Positano, including both public transportation and private transfers.

From Naples to Positano by private car transfer

The most comfortable option for many travelers is booking a Naples to Positano private transfer with Daytrip, a 1.5-hour journey with an English-speaking local driver in one of our luxury sedans. The private car service offers seamless door-to-door transportation in a climate-controlled vehicle, kicking off your Amalfi Coast holiday with a memorable journey. The private transfer prices start at $30 (€27) per person, and you can add an optional stop at a sightseeing location (or two!).

From Naples to Positano by train

There is a train along this route, but choosing this option means you sign up for an indirect trip with transfers en route. You will first take a train ride from Naples to Sorrento, then a bus to Positano. This option is more time-consuming, with a minimum travel time of 2.5 hours, and the train prices vary from $8 to $16 (€7-€14). You may also have to pay more for additional transport services to and from the public transportation station in either city.

From Naples to Positano by bus

On this route, you will first take a bus to Sorrento and then a bus from Sorrento to Positano, but with the transfers involved, you will again spend at least 2.5 hours on the road. Public transport vehicles can also often become overcrowded in peak travel seasons, and it can be difficult to get confirmation of the availability of a specific bus service in advance.

From Naples to Positano by shuttle

A Daytrip group shuttle balances the luxury service of private transfers with the value of public transportation, offering various pick-up areas (including the Naples Airport) and drop-off in central Positano. The vehicles used depend on your group size, ranging from minivans to small buses. The shared shuttle is the easiest way to travel from Naples to Positano on a budget.

From Naples to Positano by Taxi

Taxis on this route can become quite expensive, and you may pay, on average, $220 to $270 (€197-€242) for the 90-minute drive. Keep in mind that booking a taxi in advance isn’t always possible depending on the company and that you likely will need to be picked up at a central location rather than at your accommodation.

Things to do when you get to Positano

Catch some sun

No visit to Positano is complete without spending time on its iconic beaches. The main beach, Spiaggia Grande, is a picturesque spot to relax and watch the boats glide across the water. For a quieter experience, the more secluded Fornillo Beach is just a short walk away. Both offer sun loungers and umbrellas for hire, alongside beachfront cafes and restaurants where you can indulge in fresh seafood and local wines.

Hike the Path of the Gods

For a panoramic view of Positano and the coast, hike the Sentiero degli Dei, or “Path of the Gods”. The trailhead is accessible via local bus, and the hike offers some of the most breathtaking vistas in the region. Ensure you have comfortable shoes, water, and your camera ready for this adventure.

Take a boat tour

To explore the rugged coastline, discover hidden coves, or even journey to nearby islands such as Capri. These excursions provide a different perspective of Positano and are perfect outings if you want to combine adventure with stunning scenery.

When’s the best time to visit Positano?

Before booking your Amalfi Coast adventure to Positano from Naples, you will need to consider the best time of year to pay a visit to this incredible destination. The busiest times for Naples’ hotels and the Naples Airport are the summer months when southern Italy sees its hottest temperatures and fewest showers. Even if you book your hotel and any transfers in advance, things like restaurants and beach clubs can become overcrowded or booked up at this popular destination.

Consider booking a spring or autumn visit for fewer crowds and slightly cooler but still sunny weather. You may be able to score shoulder-season deals on your hotel or on any transportation you use for transfers.
