Built to honor the Saint who founded the town of Mons, this gorgeous Gothic church was never completed as planned.
Begun in 1450 to honor Saint Waltrude, whose 7th-century convent founded the town of Mons, construction dragged on all the way to the 17th century when the finishing touches were put on the church even though its original design wasn't fully realized. Despite this fact, the structure remains truly impressive from outside as it does from the inside. Listed as a monument of historical value, visitors can not only admire the Brabant Gothic exteriors, but also the stunning interiors. The gorgeous stained windows depicting biblical scenes or the "Golden Coach", wooden vehicle painted and gilded in Louis XVI style, are just some of the impressive decorations the church has to offer. Visit and you may explore the rest of them.
