This ancient horse care and breeding traditions preserved on this farm are one of the reasons Hortobágy was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Mata Stud Farm's history stretches back 300 years, though the tradition it continues dates back 2000. Today, visitors can admire the beauty of the local breed of horse - Nonius. The farm organizes so-called puszta shows, presenting the capabilities of its magnificent animals. Visitors can ride in horse-drawn carriages and see some of the farm's other animals, such as typical Hungarian grey cattle, water buffalo, or Racka sheep, as well as semi-wild horses. The absolute pinnacle of the show must be the tricks that local herdsmen perform with the stallions including standing on the back of two horses, controlled galloping and a lot more.
