Taiwan
This charming village in the Ruifang District of New Taipei is renowned for its feline inhabitants, perfect for cat lovers to explore.
Hot Spring Heritage, also known as Houtong Cat Village, is filled with adorable cats and offers panoramic views of the village, surrounding mountains, and the Keelung River Valley. Originally named Kau-tong, which translates to 'monkey cave,' due to the presence of monkeys in the area's early history, it has since undergone a remarkable transformation. In 2008, a dedicated cat lover initiated a volunteer effort to provide abandoned cats with better lives. They began posting pictures of these cats online, leading to an outpouring of support from fellow cat enthusiasts across Taiwan. The village is now crawling with cats who have been sterilized and marked with a trimmed ear to monitor and identify them. Visitors to the village will find a variety of shops, cafes, and access to the green waters of the Keelung River via stairways. The village also offers a wide range of cat-themed souvenirs and delectable treats for all cat enthusiasts.
