La Paz Waterfall Gardens is understandably one of the top private ecotourism destinations in Costa Rica. Its 3.5km of hiking trails lead through cloud forest and rain forest to 5 waterfalls. Along the way you'll find diverse flora and fauna, including parrots and the occasional curious sloth. But along with hiking, La Paz is a great place to see Costa Rica's wildlife up close. There's a hummingbird garden that's attracted 26 different species, and a butterfly observatory. Along with attracting animals from the surrounding forest, the park also has an animal refuge for creatures that can't be released into the wild. You'll find hundreds of species of birds, reptiles and mammals, including jaguars and ocelots all in one place.
