Rwanda
In one of the oldest rainforests of Africa, survey the cheeky primates that swing between branches and hear bodacious birds chattering in the trees.
South west of Rwanda, the Nyungwe National Park sprawls across an elevated ridge that divides the Nile and the Congo in an impressive display of bamboo, swamps, rainforest, grassland and bogs. Spend your visit to the park atop the Canopy Walkway, suspended over a steep wooded valley. A small stream gently flows below as groups of the amusing Ruwenzori colobus, with white bushy tufts emerging from their cheeks, clamor through leafy overhangs. The easily photographable primates are one among 85 species of mammal, along with 310 birds, 32 amphibians and 38 reptiles - most of which are endemic to the area. Surround yourself in pure nature, walk up to the gushing Isumo waterfall and pass picnic sites in East Africa’s largest tract of montane rainforest.
