Ston

In the Southern Dalmatian region of Croatia, unbeknownst to many due to size, lies a city with an impressive defensive wall nicknamed “The European Wall of China”.

About

Built in the 15th century, the Walls of Ston were once 7 kilometers long, featuring 3 fortresses and over 40 towers. So remarkable in fact, Ston's walls are the longest fortress system in Europe and only second in the world after China, hence the moniker, The European Wall of China. Only an hour's drive from Dubrovnik, Ston was unique and completely advanced for its time. With a modern infrastructure, profitable land, and a well fortified system, Ston was a hidden gem. Besides taking a stroll along the walls, one may suggest visiting its most profitable business even today: the salt works. But everyone must eat! If you get to stop at local restaurant be sure to check off your list tasting some of the locally farmed oysters. It's a must eat in Croatia!
