Beiguan Tidal Park

This vast coastal park has been shaped by millions of years of erosion, creating stunning natural features and rugged ocean views. Historically, the park was used during the Qing dynasty as an encampment for sliders, and evidence of this can still be seen today in the form of two cannons from the era on site. The outpost served primarily to guard the Southern Yilan area, hence the park’s name roughly translating to “Northern Pass.” Visitors can look forward to fascinating geological features such as cuesta formations and so-called tofu rock (a unique waterway with incredibly symmetrical stone blocks resembling tofu that create quite a foreground for crashing waves.) The Guanhai Pavillion area is best appreciated at sunrise or sunset, or when the changing tides create dramatic surging waves over the rocks. Local food stands are nearby for visitors to sample Taiwanese snacks or fresh seafood.
