Translating roughly to “Devil’s Town,” these staggering stone formations are associated with a great deal of mysterious folklore. The red-orange stone formations have been nominated to be one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature campaign, thanks to their impressive height and odd stone caps. The local stories about them vary, but one popular tale is that the stones are petrified wedding guests who were acting on the devil’s orders. Another story suggests that the stones have trapped people who failed to fulfill their promises to a witch. The natural setting of the stones only adds to their ominous impression, as they are located in the village Djake - which translates to “blood,” referring to its red stone. Nearby are two plummeting ravines named Djavolja and Paklena (translating to “Devil’s” and “Hell’s”, respectively.)
