Lake Biograd

Lake Biograd is the crown jewel of Biogradska Gora National Park, one of Europe’s last remaining virgin forests.

About

Biogradska Gora National Park is the smallest of Montenegro’s five national parks, but it has the most heart! Its first-growth forests have trees that are over 500 years old, and it is home to hundreds of plant and animal species. Particularly observant and quiet visitors may even see deer, foxes, and bears! As part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves, Biogradska Gora National Park is one of Europe’s few remaining primeval forests, making it a unique bucket-list item for those seeking the raw beauty of the Balkan wilderness. In the middle of Biogradska Gora’s 21 sq. miles (56 sq. km) sits Lake Biograd. This stunning glacial lake is surrounded by towering beech, fir, and maple trees, and its mirror-like water reflects its tranquil surroundings. A network of walking trails encircles the lake, offering hikers breathtaking views of the rolling hills and valleys.
