Medieval town of Conflans
Ensconced behind its medieval walls, this historic village allows visitors to travel back in time just by stepping through a gate.
Sobre
Founded in the 11th century with the donation of the Sainte - Marie church by the Burgundy King Rodolphe III, Conflans was well fortified, being defended by several castles. A property of the Counts of Savoy, the medieval town is still accessed through a gate bearing their coat of arms. Once within the walls, the narrow cobbled streets are lined with flower-bedecked buildings, and the townâs rich history is apparent at every turn. Dominating the town, the Baroque church has a richly carved pulpit and gilded altarpiece. At the main square, the Maison Rouge, a 14th-century red-brick building, houses the Ethnography and History museum, which tells the regionâs history through a series of artefacts.
