El Saltillo Waterfall and Lake Paimun

Hikers can enjoy a straightforward trek to this thundering waterfall for misty mid-travel sightseeing

About

Nestled in the Lanin National Park, El Saltillo Waterfall attracts thousands of visitors each year with its thundering beauty and proximity to Puerto Canoa. To view the falls, visitors can hike around one-half mile (800 meters) to a lookout point just below the top of the falls. Here, a viewpoint blanketed in mist allows travelers to admire the stunning 85 feet (25 meters) of rushing water. For most people, the hike takes about 30 minutes each way and is not overly strenuous, although there are some steeper stretches near the top of the trail. The road into the park toward the waterfall is just as exciting as the falls themselves, as you’ll pass through homesteads kept by the Mapuche community and be able to learn more about the local culture here. There are also a range of trails around the park that extend beyond the waterfall loop, for the more adventurous hiker.
