North Macedonia
Whether you visit Krusevo for the singing, skiing, or soaring in the air, you are sure to have a memorable time in Macedonia’s highest town.
Krusevo may be unassuming, but it is not to be overlooked! In fact, it is impossible to overlook Krusevo, as it is the highest town in Macedonia. It is also among the highest peaks in the Balkans, attracting Red Bull to host annual paragliding events where trained professionals glide down the mountain. In the winter, it is popular for skiing and snowboarding. Krusevo is also the only place in the world to specifically recognize Aromanian as an official language due to its sizable population of Aromanians relative to its size. This minority ethnic group has been recognized generally by both Albania and Macedonia, but Krusevo has the only major concentration of Aromanians in Macedonia. The most famous Aromanian from Krusevo was Tose Proeski, the “Elvis of the Balkans,” and many fans visit Krusevo annually to pay respects at the memorial and small museum dedicated to him.
