Tour this incredible abbey and soak in the ornate interiors before enjoying a traditional meal on-site.
Founded in 1355, the Schlierbach Abbey was last rebuilt in the 17th century in a stunning Baroque style. The abbey holds a storied history, having historically serviced the community as a nun’s convent before its decline during the Napoleonic era. By its revitalization in the 20th century, the abbey had established itself as a sustainable venture thanks to its economic pursuits in glassworks, cheese manufacturing, and a school. Today, visitors can enjoy a tour of the impressive campus and participate in one of the craft workshops before retiring to the monastery for an authentic Austrian meal. Special attention should be given to the Abbey’s distinctive Baroque towers, ornate church interior, and carefully preserved ceiling fresco of Apollo and the nine muses. The Abbey garden, inner yard, and cloisters are also incredibly scenic places to explore.
