Hungary
Visit a peculiar cemetery, where all graves are marked in a unique way.
Szatmárcseke is a small Hungarian village near the Ukrainian border and at first sight does not stand out. Not until you visit the local cemetery. All approximately 600 graves feature boat-shaped markers from dark oak with human-like faces carved into them. The tradition of this practice is shrouded in mystery as some believe the boat-shaped marker symbolizes death being just part of the soul's journey, while others believe this symbolism has to do with the way their ancestors were buried. Whether one or the other is true, this cemetery deserves your attention.
