The Secret Soviet Bunker
This perfectly preserved bunker provides a fascinating look at life in the Soviet era.
À propos
The Secret Soviet Bunker was built at the height of the Cold War to provide shelter for the elite of Soviet Latvia in case of a nuclear attack. This 213,000 square foot hideout was fully stocked to support 250 people for up to 3 months. Built beneath a spa center, for decades the employees didn’t know about the secret bunker, or that their reflecting pool and basketball court were actually helipads. When Latvia joined NATO, the bunker didn’t measure up to their standards, and was subsequently abandoned. Today, the site looks just as it did in the 1980s, complete with Soviet-era equipment. A fascinating tour explains the bunker’s inner-workings, from its power plant and air purification systems to contingency plans and the telecommunications hotline linked to the Kremlin. Visitors can also experience a true taste of the Soviet era by having a typical meal in the canteen. Please note: tours must be reserved in advance at http://www.bunkurs.lv/en/
