Tarquinia is about 13 miles (21 km) from Civitavecchia, making it one of the closest day trip destinations available from the port. The drive takes roughly 25 to 30 minutes, leaving you more time to explore once you arrive.
It is one of the best. Few places in Italy offer such direct and well-preserved contact with the Etruscan civilization that preceded Rome. The Necropolis is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00. It is closed on Mondays. Hours may vary during public holidays, so checking ahead of your visit is always a good idea to avoid disappointment.
