Utrecht to Haarlem and Amsterdam: Private day trip

One of just two world capitals set below sea level, Amsterdam is a hive of history, art, and culture, nestled within a labyrinth of marvelous canals. With intricate waterways and eye-catching architecture, this major world port of the Dutch Golden Age is often called 'the Venice of the North’. Amsterdam is such an intriguing destination; not just for the canals, but rather the diversity of the sights on land. Great landmarks like the Rijksmuseum and the Royal Palace atop Dam Square, show the prominence this city has. A short walk away, you’ll discover The Jordaan, a quaint neighborhood, brimming with specialty shops and designer boutiques. Fill up on the arts at the Van Gogh Museum or the House of Rembrandt. For most newcomers to the city, another house - one of true historical importance - no doubt tops the list. The story of Anne Frank is known by all and portrays the most important perspective of the Second World War. Her house, surely, is unmissable. Those with an interest in the obscure, are sure to find it down in Amsterdam Dungeon or the BodyWorlds exhibition, and even more so in De Wallen, an area famous for its Red Light District. You can easily get around town using boats, bikes, and trams; just don’t forget to stop for a plate of the country’s favorite bar snack, Bitterballen, and a pint of locally brewed Heineken!
