### A brief history of Arequipa
Although there is evidence that the indigenous group Aymara inhabited Arequipa 1,000 years before the Incas, Incan cultural influence has become more evident today. In 1540, the Spanish conquistador Garcรญ Manuel de Carbajal founded the city.
