Midas Monument

This ancient is filled with ancient monuments, but is best known for the massive monument dedicated to King Midas.

Om

The Midas Monument, or Yazılıkaya are the remains of a series of monuments, primarily from the 8th to the 6th century BC. The most impressive is the namesake ‘Midas Monument’, a rendering of a temple entrance carved directly into a rock face in the 7th or 6th century BC. Ornamented with geometric figures. On the top, an inscription in Old Phrygian states it’s dedicated to King Midas. Nearby, a rock outcrop was hollowed out into a Hellenistic tomb on one side, and a Byzantine settlement on the other. Around the site, you’ll find other tombs and ancient structures, such as huge Phrygian cisterns that fed a healing stream on the lower terrace.
