Mrigadayavan Palace

Designed by the king himself, this elegant wooden palace was meant to be as airy as possible.

Om

Built in 1924 for King Rama VI, the Mrigadayavan Palace was designed as a summer retreat to help alleviate the king’s rheumatoid arthritis. Layed out by the king and perfected by the court architect, the palace’s 16 teak buildings were designed to maximize air circulation and compliment the seaside location by being simple and frugal when compared to other royal palaces. The palace was used for a short while after Rama VI’s death, but was essentially abandoned for decades. Slowly being restored, the unique stilt-supported structure is still a lovely place to roam to appreciate the elegant architecture and views of the sea. Please note: as this is a royal palace, arms and legs must be covered, though there are sarongs available to rent at the entrance. The palace is closed on Wednesdays.
