Stams Abbey
With its opulent ornamentation, this noble burial site is a beautiful way to go.
Om
Count Meinhard II of Gorizia-Tyrol founded Stams Abbey in 1273 by as a burial site for all the future Counts of Gorizia-Tyrol. However, local legend says the monastery was built as a memorial to Conradin, the last of the Hohenstaufen dynasty who was beheaded in Naples in 1268. The monasteryâs church, dominated by its high altar depicting the Tree of Life altar, is a a premier example of the decadent Rococo style. In the museum, visitors will find important artefacts from every aspect of the abbeyâs history, from altars to art and furniture, and even an apothecary. Surrounded by the mountains of Tyrol, the monasteryâs orangery and its stunning restaurant garden is the perfect place to soak in the abbeyâs atmosphere.
