Fox Glacier sits on State Highway 6 along the West Coast, which means access is straightforward by road but the distances are real. From Queenstown it is roughly a 5 to 5.5-hour drive; from Christchurch via Greymouth, expect around 6 to 6.5 hours total. Franz Josef, the other major glacier town, is only about 20 km (12 miles) to the north, making it easy to visit both on the same trip.
