Ravello Festival

Ravello is internationally recognized within the performing arts community for its annual Ravello Festival (also known as the Wagner Festival). This event began in 1953 to encourage tourism during the economically difficult years following WWII.

Sorrento to Ravello by ferry

For a view of the endless sea, NLG has 6 ferries a day from Sorrento to Amalfi, and tickets are $26 (€24.50) per person. The first ferry leaves at 9:00 AM, and the last one leaves at 4:10 PM. The trip takes 1-2 hours around the coast.

From Amalfi, you will need to take a short bus ride or a taxi up into the hills to Ravello. In the summer, buses leave every 30 minutes from Amalfi.

Sorrento to Ravello by bus

SITA has direct buses that can make the journey in 90 minutes. During the summer, buses leave at least twice an hour from 6:30 AM to 7:50 PM, and tickets are $2 to $9 (€1.80-€8).

Villa Cimbrone

On the "Terrace of Infinity," the skyline and sea will truly feel infinite as you gaze out over the railings. Villa Cimbrone’s gardens have a uniquely Italian blend of classical statues, exotic plants, and serene pathways. It is a 10-minute walk slightly uphill from Piazza Centrale, and it is worth calling ahead, as the garden does close occasionally for special events.

Duomo di Ravello (Ravello Cathedral)

By now you are surely an expert at Italian travel and know that every central town square is going to have a cathedral! This 11th-century cathedral is dedicated to San Pantaleone and features a stunning bronze door and a pulpit adorned with intricate mosaics. The museum inside houses religious artifacts and artworks.

Piazza Duomo

The central square of Ravello is the heart of the town, surrounded by historic buildings, cafes, and shops. It is right outside the Duomo di Ravello and the perfect place to rest your feet and have a coffee after walking up and down all those hills! (You may also see it called Piazza Centrale.)

Hiking

While the Amalfi coast’s famous Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods) doesn’t quite reach Ravello, there are still scenic hiking trails with trailheads in Ravello that offer unbelievable views.

The hiking trails in this area are rated moderate to hard due to the elevation and rocky paths, and you should always have a bottle of water, appropriate shoes, and skin protection. If you are visiting Ravello in the summer, getting the hike started in the early morning will help you beat the heat.
