About Budapest
With endless historical tales and countless monuments dotted around the city on your trip from Prague to Budapest, it's no surprise Hungary's capital is steeped in rich history. The area dates back over 2000 years when it began life as a Celtic settlement. When the Romans arrived in the 1st century, they established a fort on the site. This quickly grew into the city of Aquincum, the capital of Lower Pannonia. In the 21st century, you can still visit this ancient sight, located only 5 miles from the bustling center of Budapest.
Since then, Budapest has remained a political and cultural center. The Hungarian tribes made Budapest the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary around 1000 AD. Later, it became a major Renaissance center in Eastern Europe and the co-capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
In the late 1840s, the city witnessed a dramatic change. The Chain Bridge was the first permanent one to span the Danube River and connect the flat lands of Pest and the hilly terrain of Buda. Demand for this life-changing structure sparked into life after the waterway froze, preventing a son from preventing his father's funeral.
Arguably, the region's most prominent rise to fame was the unification of the three nearby cities. Until 1873, Buda, Pest, and Obuda were separate, and locals often had rivalries with each other.
As of 2024, the cityscape has developed, with eight bridges now connecting the east and west of the river. And it doesn't stop there. Budapest is now one of Europe's most visited cities due to its colorful nightlife and world-class attractions, all at budget-friendly prices.
Located only a few blocks from the Dohany Street Synagogue is the New York Cafe. It's often called the world's most beautiful cafe due to its stunning neo-Baroque decor. Budapest is also home to several thermal baths. Among them, the Szechenyi Thermal Baths stand out as the largest in Europe.
After the sun sets, Budapest's famous nightlife comes alive. The mega clubs draw thousands, but there's another option thatās distinctively Budapest: ruin bars. Locals began the trend by purchasing inexpensive derelict buildings in the Jewish District as a place to drink and hang out. Guests brought second-hand or unwanted furniture into the setting, which led to the unique interior you will see today. Over time, the craze began to blossom into life. And there are now dozens scattered along the Jewish District where locals and tourists come together.

"We had a very pleasant drive from Prague to Budapest. Our driver was professional, friendly and very accomodating. We unexpectedly had one of our group who needed crutches with us, so that made the sitting arrangment a bit tight with all our luggage. The driver did his best to accommodate us. We found a place for lunch along the way and treated him to lunch as it was very pleasant to visit with him. "

"Attila arrived promptly after texting us he was on his way! Luggage packed we were off! His car was immaculate, bottled water provided and separate comfort controls in the back. My husband had plenty of leg room as well!
Attila stopped twice at a rest stop for us to use the restroom and have a cup of coffee. He also added a little detour to a castle, which is now a public park and tourist destination for locals so basically we had three rest stops between Prague and Budapest, which made the ride very comfortable. We would certainly use this service again. "

"The trip exceeded my expectations. David T. was very engaging and interesting to talk to. For a long trip that can be important.
At the two stops we made we had not done a lot of research. I had actually inquired of Daytrip about things we might do so I could coordinate tickets ahead of time, but you were not able to help. However, David knew exactly what to expect on our side trips and did a marvelous job of dropping us off at the key locations, advising how/where to get the tickets we needed and told us how/where he would pick us up at the end of our short excursions. And every time I asked him how much time we had for the excursions he would say "You'll probably need about XX minutes, but take as long as you want".
David even let us make an unscheduled stop for lunch at a very quaint diner he suggested. He accepted our offer to eat with us (we paid, of course) and he was invaluable in helping us order/pay since nobody and the restaurant spoke any English.
So.... a great experience."

"Fabulous trip! Vladimir was an excellent driver, as well as well as very knowledgeable in Czech history. I quizzed him for hours until I could understand the roots of Czech and the experiences of his grandparents in WW2 and during the Communist rule. He was very funny, drove with safety and precision, and we generally had a very good time on a very long trip. This Is the second time I have used Daytrip, and I am sold on you as a provider of drivers in Europe. Great communication from the driver and the company in general. Why book with anyone else?
