More than just a museum, history is brought to life in these traditional buildings thanks to talented craftsmen and actors.
Opened in 1938 after the provincial government acquired the historic site of Bokrijk, over the years, the museum acquired traditional buildings from Flanders’ different regions. Today, 150 structures, the oldest dating back to the 16th century gives visitors a look at how life used to be. Visitors can see a priest preparing his sermon, or the village constable out on patrol before stepping into a workshop to see traditional craftsmen at work. The museum isn’t just about the distant past - visitors can also experience a taste of the swingin’ 60s.
