Es Castell

Tucked away on the eastern coast of Menorca, this historical town offers characteristic architecture and two peaceful harbors for fine dining and scenic seaside views.

About

The charming town of Es Castell has a long and fascinating history dating back to the 16th Century. The town was originally called Georgetown when it was developed during the British occupation in the 18th Century. When the Spanish reclaimed the island in 1782, its name was changed to Villacarlos and it wasn’t until 1985 that the town became known as Es Castell. You can see the influence of the town’s colonial past in the Georgian architecture dotted around, most noticeably in the main square. Here you can find a strikingly red-painted Town Hall next to the equally dramatic Military Museum of Menorca where you can learn about the island’s military history. Two harbors offer scenic strolls along their promenades, where you can find many restaurants and bars, some of which are built inside caves! Perfect for scenic sunset views, sit back, relax, and enjoy the picturesque sea views while trying some tapas or fresh seafood.
