Poland
This beautiful Renaissance castle has exhibited its rich collection of art and artefacts for three centuries.
Gołuchów Castle was originally a 16th century defensive structure, but its successive owners gradually transformed it into a beautiful noble residence. In the 19th century, Izabela Dzialynska opened her home to the public as a museum, exhibiting her collection of paintings, sculptures, furniture, and ancient artefacts, which was one of the richest in Poland. During World War II, much of the collection was moved or stolen, so today’s museum is a mixture of newly acquired artefacts and the surviving part of the original collection. A walk through the beautifully furnished interior bring visitors through the Ancient Vase Room, the Gothic Rooms adorned with the period artwork, the Old Polish Portrait Room and the Polish Room, and other rooms richly ornamented with Renaissance fireplaces, sculpted doors, and richly ornamented ceilings. Visitors can also enjoy a stroll through the larges landscape park in the region, or step into the Castle's outbuildings to see Poland's only Forestry Museum.
