This well-preserved Incan administrative center was built entirely for logistical reasons, and so was largely ignored by the Spanish.
Huanuco Pampa is one of the administrative centers and storage areas that allowed the incredible, 40,000-kilometer-long Inca Road system to function. Strategically located on a steep plateau, it was easy to defend against the invading Conquistadors, and even after the collapse of the Incan Empire, was never turned into a colonial city. Because it's been left in-situ, the ruins have provided invaluable insights into Inca culture, and offer visitors an unadulterated look at an Inca city. Walking among the ruins, you'll able to see a pyramid along with other works of impressive Inca craftsmanship that have stood the test of time.
