Misahualli

About

The small but bustling port of Misahualli has long been a great base for exploring the Amazon rainforest and the Rio Napo river. Though it’s presence as a transit point has been much diminished since a road was built to connect the region’s major cities, it is still a magical place to experience the jungle. The town itself, at the confluence of two rivers (the other being the more diminutive Rio Misahualli), is blessed with a lovely sandy beach (perfect for a cool dip to combat the humidity) and host to large cadre of monkeys. The Capuchin are most prominent in the main square and should be enjoyed from a distance - please keep your belongings safe and secure as they will steal anything they can! Tours down the Rio Napo by boat can easily be arranged here, and in the village itself a butterfly house helps the local species to flourish.
