Sokolski Monastery

About

Starting as a humble wooden church in front of Sokola Cave cave in 1833, the serene monastery of today gradually grew around it. Under Ottoman rule, it’s said that many Bulgarian maidens leapt from the chasm next to the monastery rather than convert to Islam. The monastery’s fountain has its own legend - it’s believed the faucets have a limitless supply of water, which can heal any ailment. Adding to the monastery’s mystique is its role in sheltering revolutionary fighter Vasil Levski in the 19th century. Along with enjoy the complex’s calm atmosphere and colorful artwork, visitors can enjoy the scenic picnic spot or incredible walking trails to really soak in the stunning natural surroundings.
