Tredegar House

This luxuriously furnished manor gives an immersive look into the lives of the Morgans - one of the most notable Welsh families.

About

Tredegar House began as a grand stone building in the 15th century that hosted the likes of King Charles I. 200 years later, William Morgan, a relative of the infamous Captain Morgan, had Tredegar rebuilt as an even grander red brick country house - a rare construction material at the time. Today, Tredegar offers visitors a barrier-free look into the lives of one of Wales’ grandest families. Here, visitors can marvel at the rich 17th century rooms, which are crowned by the stupendous Gilt Room, which is glistening in gold. In the 1930s bedrooms, visitors will learn about the eccentric Evan Morgan, who kept a boxing kangaroo and foul-mouthed parrot. Down stair, the kitchens and servant’s quarters give a look at what it took to keep the house running. Outside, visitors can enjoy a pleasant walk through the manor’s distinctive gardens, or stroll into the park to sit by the lake.
