About Budapest
With endless historical tales and countless monuments dotted around the city on your trip from Prague to Budapest, it's no surprise Hungary's capital is steeped in rich history. The area dates back over 2000 years when it began life as a Celtic settlement. When the Romans arrived in the 1st century, they established a fort on the site. This quickly grew into the city of Aquincum, the capital of Lower Pannonia. In the 21st century, you can still visit this ancient sight, located only 5 miles from the bustling center of Budapest.
Since then, Budapest has remained a political and cultural center. The Hungarian tribes made Budapest the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary around 1000 AD. Later, it became a major Renaissance center in Eastern Europe and the co-capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
In the late 1840s, the city witnessed a dramatic change. The Chain Bridge was the first permanent one to span the Danube River and connect the flat lands of Pest and the hilly terrain of Buda. Demand for this life-changing structure sparked into life after the waterway froze, preventing a son from preventing his father's funeral.
Arguably, the region's most prominent rise to fame was the unification of the three nearby cities. Until 1873, Buda, Pest, and Obuda were separate, and locals often had rivalries with each other.
As of 2024, the cityscape has developed, with eight bridges now connecting the east and west of the river. And it doesn't stop there. Budapest is now one of Europe's most visited cities due to its colorful nightlife and world-class attractions, all at budget-friendly prices.
Located only a few blocks from the Dohany Street Synagogue is the New York Cafe. It's often called the world's most beautiful cafe due to its stunning neo-Baroque decor. Budapest is also home to several thermal baths. Among them, the Szechenyi Thermal Baths stand out as the largest in Europe.
After the sun sets, Budapest's famous nightlife comes alive. The mega clubs draw thousands, but there's another option thatâs distinctively Budapest: ruin bars. Locals began the trend by purchasing inexpensive derelict buildings in the Jewish District as a place to drink and hang out. Guests brought second-hand or unwanted furniture into the setting, which led to the unique interior you will see today. Over time, the craze began to blossom into life. And there are now dozens scattered along the Jewish District where locals and tourists come together.

âVi körde frĂ„n Budapest till Prag med ett stopp i Kutna Hora. âI would use Daytrip again in a heartbeat. Marcos was friendly and early to pick us up and make sure we had a good drive. The communication from Daytrip made us confident that we would get from Budapest to Prague with no concerns. Can't recommend enough!â
âI travelled between Budapest and Prague. The service was on- time and the car was comfortable. The driver was courteous and responsive. He entered into a conversation when I initiated it, and let me mind my business when I wanted some quiet time. The door-to-door service saved me a lot of time and hassle not just getting from one city to the other, but also to to get to my destination within the cities. Since I had the same driver both ways he was able to pick me up an hour earlier when my schedule changed on the way back. I highly recommend the service.â
âWe are really pleased that we arranged to travel from Budapest to Prague
with Daytrip. Michal arrived at our Budapest hotel exactly on time
in his clean and spacious vehicle. He was courteous, professional and
engaging, and a safe and capable driver. On several occasions, he avoided congestion on the motorways by taking smaller side roads, which both saved us time and allowed us to see something of the countryside. He
escorted us through Bratislava, ensuring that we visited the most important and interesting sights of the city, and showed us to an authentic local restaurant for lunch. All in all, we thought the service was convenient and great value for money. We would definitely consider using Daytrip
again, and would recommend you to our friends.â

âFamily transfer from Budapest to Prague by transport van was more cost effective and less stressful, with lots of luggage, less time consuming, and much more fun. We had a great driver, showed us sights along the way, stopped at a great place for lunch. It was just as fast as the train and avoided inconveniences of airports. Highly recommend it.â
âOur trip from Prague to Budapest, with Matej as our gracious driver was beyond excellent! He was on time, very helpful with our luggages (we had so much luggages with us!), helped us in finding a restaurant when we were so hungry since most of the restaurants that time were closed for it was a holiday and lastly, made sure we arrived safely in our hotel in Budapest and secured our luggages first before leaving us. It was our first time to use Daytrip and my family said I made the best decision ever!â
âI used Daytrip from Prague to Budapest. I was hesitant to book because their prices were "too good to be true" It was a seamless trip, my driver Gyula spoke perfect English, was an exceptional driver and a pleasure to be with for 6 hours.
Highly Highly recommend DayTripâ
âDaytrip made our trip from Prague to Budapest so very pleasant and convenient. Scheduling the trip on our timetable instead of having to deal with trains or short flights was such a treat and the price was actually comparable. Our driver, Alex, was right on time to pick us up at our hotel, courteous and helpful with the luggage. His driving was impeccable and our conversations with him were great. He went above and beyond to make our trip as pleasant as possible. We opted for a short side trip to a Czech winery, Sonbeck Winery, for a tasting and it was the perfect way to break up the trip. We even found a wine we enjoyed and purchased some for later consumption. We were dropped off at the front door of our hotel in Budapest fresh and ready to explore the city. We would definitely consider DayTrip for any of our transport needs in the future.â
âOur kids told us of Daytrip and we decided to use it on our journey from Budapest to Prague. Peter D was our driver and we just clicked. Over lunch he mentioned that he felt we were old friends reconnecting. We had a 2 hour stop in Bratislava and Peter was a great tour guide. The time just sped by and our conversations were enjoyable dealing with many topics. He got us to our hotel safely and we would like to thank him again for making the drive a very enjoyable one for the two of us!
Matter of fact we booked another trip from Prague to Vienna with Dusan in a few days.â
