About Naples

The regional capital of Campania, Naples lies 120 miles (190 km) southeast of Rome. Founded by the Greeks, it’s one of the oldest continuously inhabited urban areas globally. This long history has shaped the area into the exciting metropolis it is today.

The port has acted as a door to the Mediterranean for over 2000 years and remains central to its economy. Meanwhile, its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and destination for the many palaces, churches, statues, and fountains that line its streets and plazas.

From Positano to Naples: travel tips

If you’ve decided to use a car service from Positano to Naples, here are some key travel tips to optimize your private transfer.

Select a reputable car service

Opt for a private transfer with Daytrip, whose well-maintained vehicles and experienced drivers navigate Italy’s roads with ease to drop you off right at your accommodation or the airport in time for your flight.

Timing is key

If you’re booking sightseeing stops at Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii, or a winery, plan your trip to avoid the midday crowds and rush-hour congestion. And if you’re catching a flight, give a buffer for traffic delays.

Savor the Ride

Take a private transfer with Daytrip to fully appreciate this route from the Amalfi Coast to the capital of the Campania region. A private car is the only option that lets you take advantage of sightseeing opportunities at Italy’s iconic landmarks, like the ancient ruins of Pompeii and slumbering Mt. Vesuvius. It’s a great way to squeeze in some more of Italy if you’re on your way to Naples Airport!

Positano to Naples by Train

There is no train station in Positano, so you’ll first need to take a bus or taxi (or Amalfi-based ferry in the summer) to Sorrento. Once there, you can buy tickets at the station for the Circumvesuviana train. The total trip price is about $17-$24 (€15-22). You’ll then need to get from the station to your hotel.

Positano to Naples by Bus

Tickets cost between €10 and €12 EUR and can be purchased at local cigarette shops and newspaper stands. Once you reach Sorrento, you can buy a bus ticket to Naples. If you’re heading directly to Naples Airport, the Curreri Viaggi shuttle service offers buses from Sorrento’s main station to the P1 parking area at Naples Airport for 10 euros. These buses leave every 2 hours from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM, except for Christmas and New Year. You’ll need to purchase your ticket on their website in advance to ensure a seat.

Positano to Naples by Ferry/Hydrofoil

Like every other public transport option, there is no direct ferry from Positano to Naples. In the summer, you can get a ferry from Positano to Sorrento for about 20 EUR. From Sorrento, the Alilauro Hydrofoil will take you to the Moro Beverello Pier in Naples for just 13.10 EUR. Positano to Naples Shuttle

Positano to Naples by Private Car Transfer

If you’d like to travel from Positano to Naples in comfort, and on your own schedule, a private car transfer with a company like Daytrip is the best option. You will be picked up at your accommodation and the driver will take care of your luggage. Things to do when you get to Naples

As the third-largest city in Italy, there’s no shortage of things to do when you get to Naples, but when creating your itinerary, don’t forget the 3 P’s: the port, palaces, and pizza.

Palace hop around Piazza del Plebiscito

You can easily spend a day at the Piazza del Plebiscito, Naples’ main square. Surrounding this huge space are multiple palaces, including the Royal Palace, Palazzo Salerno, and Prefecture Palace, and the Basilica Royal.

Take in the views from Castel Nuovo

The castle you can see from the Piazza del Plebiscito, is the iconic Castel Nuovo. Built in the 13th century, it’s been modified, updated, and remodeled over the years, and now has a Baroque triumphal arch as its entrance. It’s well worth taking a tour to see the interiors, and the view of the port from the ramparts is the best in the city.

Explore Santa Lucia

Head southwest from the Piazza del Plebiscito and you’ll enter the district of Santa Lucia. This warren of narrow cobbled alleys is the perfect place to lose yourself in Neopolitan living. Originally a fishing settlement, it’s a great place to stop for some authentic seafood dishes.

Patrol the port

Keep heading downhill in Santa Lucia, and you’ll finally reach Naples harbor. The basis of Naple’s economy, the harbor is split into a number of different ports, and is abuzz at all hours. During the day though, you’ll want to pay a visit to the Castel dell'Ovo. The oldest fortification still standing in Naples, there’s been some defensive structure here since the 6th century BC.

Find the best pizza in Naples

Sample as much pizza as possible during your Naples explorations. Restaurants in the city battle for the title of “Best Pizza in Naples”. L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele is always popular, especially after Julia Roberts ate here in Eat, Pray, Love. But you also don’t want to miss a distinctly Neopolitan experience; keep your eyes peeled for street pizza carts, which fry their pies rather than bake them.

Alfonso Sorrentino

Alfonso Sorrentino!

Daytrip,Grazie Mille!
