Main attractions

• The chalk cliff face stretches 6km along the eastern shore of Møn — the white wall rising sheer from the Baltic is entirely unlike anything else in the flat Danish landscape and gives a genuine sense of geological drama
• The GeoCenter Møns Klint is one of Scandinavia's best natural history museums — interactive displays on the formation of the chalk, the Cretaceous sea creatures whose remains built it, and the fossil-finding guide for the beach below
• The beach at the cliff base — reached by a long wooden staircase — is scattered with fossils eroded from the chalk face; sea urchin fossils (cidarider) are the most commonly found

What to eat

• The GeoCenter café serves good Danish smørrebrød (open sandwiches) and hot meals; the drive back through the Møn countryside passes several farm shops selling local produce

Take note

The staircase to the beach is steep — 498 steps down and back up; the cliff base can be muddy, and the chalk boulders are uneven; sturdy footwear is essential. The cliffs are an active erosion site — do not stand beneath the cliff face
