Lagos has no shortage of beautiful beaches. The largest and longest beach in the area is Meia Praia, where you can enjoy white sand, calm waters, and 2.5 (4km) miles of coastline.
Praia da Batata, or Potato Beach, is just a 10-minute walk from the Lagos Old Town. It sits snugly between two rock formations that intersect the Atlantic Ocean and the river and is the perfect spot to cool off after a day of exploring. Be careful when running on the beach as shells are aplenty!
### Learn to dive
The Algarve has some exceptional diving spots, from coral reefs to shipwrecks. Whether you're a SCUBA master or have never donned a tank, it's a great place to get your toes wet. Some form of fortification has watched over Lagos since prehistoric times.
