About

Founded as an ancient Roman fort, the charming village of Štanjel peaked during the Middle Ages. During the 15th and 17th centuries, the little hilltop town was fortified to protects against the invading Turks, and is still dominated by a medieval castle. Next door is the 16th century parish church with a distinctive lemon-shaped dome. Below, the Ferrari Gardens provide a serene setting for a romantic stroll and offer great views of the surrounding countryside. The quaint cobbled streets are lined with beautiful stone houses, enhanced by vines and flowers, providing an enchanting backdrop to simply wander around, and maybe enjoy some local wine.
