Many people believe renting a car in Naples is easy and can get them to Maiori far quicker than other options. Although driving is indeed faster, renting is not that easy. If you want to rent a car, you must be over 21 years old in Italy and have a minimum of a year of driving experience.
In addition, if you’re not an EU resident, you’ll also need an international driver's permit. Renting a car is also expensive, with prices starting at $65 (€60) a day minus insurance, deposits, and fuel. Plus, Maiori and the rest of the Amalfi Coast have limits on when rental cars can enter!

This is because bus travel is relatively cheap between these two destinations, and direct trips are offered. Taking a bus is also often faster than taking a train, and for only about $5.40 to $11 (€5-€10), many budget travelers choose this option.
If you want to book a bus ticket, you’ll need to consider SITA Sud as it is one of the only bus lines offering trips between these two places. However, before you book, you need to know that bus travel can have its negatives. For example, there are not many bus trips offered daily, it's not as comfortable as private car travel, and the winding roads can make many feel unsafe. So keep these factors in mind.
Taking the train is often one of the more convenient travel options, especially in European countries, but this isn’t the case when you want to get from Naples to Maiori. Although train travel is possible, it's complicated.
You would need to book a train with Trenitalia’s train line, which would cost about $5.40 to $16 (€5-€15), and the train would take you to Salerno from Naples. From Salerno, you need to book a bus or ferry to take you on the rest of the way to Maiori. If you want to take the bus, you’ll need to book with SITA Sud, and if you want to take a ferry, you will likely book with Travelmar. Both options would cost between $2 and $11 (€2-€10) from Salerno to Maiori.
The costs will quickly add up, and if there are no delays, the entire trip will take about two to three hours. Plus, with all the transfers, traveling can be frustrating even though the timeframe isn’t too excessive, considering you’ll have to cart your own luggage.
