This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the best places in the world to see evidence of the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs.
The 15-kilometer-long Stevns Klint coastal cliff doesn’t look like much from a distance - just a chalky white ledge. However, it’s one of the best places to see the “Cretaceous-Tertiary (K/T) boundary” and the layer of iridium that blanketed the planet from the Chicxulub meteorite that crashed into the planet 65 million years ago. You know, the one that killed off the dinosaurs and up to 75% of all other species. The mass extinction is well documented by the layers of fossils that have been uncovered here, which includes the most diverse end-Cretaceous marine ecosystem known, and the evolution of fauna following the impact. Here, you can also visit a 13th century church, and take a 1.5 hour tour of a Cold War base.
