The monks living in this medieval monastery have stayed true to their traditional values, right down to their captivating Gregorian chants.
Founded in the 7th century, the Abbaye de St-Wandrille was one of the first Benedictine abbeys in Normandy, and would grow to become an important spiritual and intellectual center. The active monastic community carries on this tradition through its publishing work, along with microfilming and wood-work. Visitors can enter this world devotion through the picturesque Pelican gate, which gives way to the elaborate 18th century Rococo buildings where the monks go about their daily lives. Visitors can also explore the remains of the 14th-century abbey church, and the cloisters their Flamboyant Gothic embellishments. The abbey’s 13th century barn now houses the reliquary, including the remains of Saint Wandrille. Visitors can also soak in the abbeys enchanting atmosphere with its home-made beer - the only one in France actually made by monks in their own monastery. For the fullest experience, we recommend joining a guided tour. More info can be found at https://www.st-wandrille.com/fr/vous-accueillir/visite-guidee
