Learn about the life and times of Honest Abe at this monument enshrining his humble birthplace.
The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park is centered around a Neo-Classical monument that looks like a smaller version of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. Inside, instead of a statue of the 16th president, you'll find a recreation of the simple, one-room cabin in which he was born. Tradition says that some of the logs from the original cabin were used in its construction. In the onsite museum, you'll learn how he went from humble beginnings to become one of the greatest figures in American history. Plus some fun facts, like how Lincoln Logs are named after this very cabin. A walking trail around the monument sheds more light on frontier living, leading past things like the simple karst well where the Lincolns got their water.
