Experience Bali’s amazing artistic heritage in this picturesque complex of traditional buildings.
The Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) was founded by Balinese entrepreneur and art collector, Anak Agung Gde Rai, to preserve and promote Bali’s artistic heritage. Spread across a 5 hectare estate made up of traditional Thai buildings, visitors will find an enlightening exhibition of artwork. ARMA is the only place in Bali exhibiting work by German expat Walter Spies, with other highlights including Portrait of a Javanese Nobleman and his Wife, by 19th century Javanese artist Raden Saleh, which predates American Gothic by decades. You’ll also find exhibits showcasing classical Kamasan paintings, and Batuan-style work from the 1930s and '40s. Occasionally, you find local children practicing traditional Balinese dancing and gamelan. There are also regular Legong and Kecak performances, as well as cultural courses.
