Finland
Get a look into the private life of Finland's most beloved and influential composer.
Located on the shores of Lake Tuusula in Järvenpää, the Ainola Museum offers visitors an intimate glimpse into the life and legacy of Jean Sibelius, one of Finland's most celebrated composers. He built his lakeside home in the early 20th century, and it remained his private haven until his death in 1957. Sibelius lived here with his wife Aino and their six daughters, drawing inspiration from the untouched countryside and the company of fellow artistic families who also resided in the area. Learn about the composer’s life and his artistic journey through the museum's collection of artifacts, including the piano gifted to Sibelius for his 50th birthday. Fun fact: water pipes were not installed until after Sibelius's passing because the composer refused any distractions while working. On the practical side: there is a cafe on site, and keep in mind that the museum is closed in winter.
