United Arab Emirates
Inspired by the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and Andalusian art, offers a beautiful look into Islamic architecture.
The Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque was built in 2011 as a smaller version of Istanbul’s famed Blue Mosque. The colored tiles, fountain, and interior shapes were made by Moroccan craftsmen in the Andalusian style, adding an international spin to the traditional Ottoman architecture. Inside, the colorful, blue Moroccan tiles and white walls contrast with colorful stained glass windows and rich red carpets, which were custom-made in Germany. Unlike nearly every other mosque in the UAE, this one is open to non-Muslims, though appropriate attire is required.
