This green dragon flies through the air, but only if you are willing to see the world from a new perspective.
The Amanohashidate landbridge is a strip of land that juts into the Miyazu Bay off of the Aso inland sea. The landbridge is covered in pine forest atop its sandy soil and is called “the bridge to heaven.” Amanohashidate Viewland is a viewpoint and amusement center located at the top of Mt. Monju, which can be reached by cable car or a chair lift. Once at the viewpoint, you’ll see an elevated platform on which visitors are supposed to stand and bend over. This is because the bay and sky become inverted when your view is turned upside down, giving the illusion that the green strip of trees is a dragon soaring through the blue sky. Once you’re right-side up again, take in the panoramic views of the bay and the surrounding mountains. Many family-friendly attractions are at the top of the hill, including Ferris wheels, pedal cars, and a skywalk.
