Every animal in this wildlife rehabilitation centre and sanctuary has a tragic story to tell.
This is not your average zoo - in fact it’s not really a zoo in the traditional sense at all. This is a rescue centre, supported as much through donations than entrance fees or gift shop sales. The opportunity to see a large variety of animals up close is not to be missed; capybaras, monkeys, toucans, boa constrictors, rare birds, and wild cats can be viewed here. But this is not a zoo built for public enjoyment. The English and Spanish speaking volunteer guides will tell you a tragic tale of animals rescued from traffickers and poachers, abandoned pets too domesticated to be released into the wild, wildlife displaced by logging, and injured animals saved from the roadside. When the staff can rehabilitate and rerelease an animal back into the wild they are ecstatic, but for all the others visits from members of the public help to support this truly worthy cause.
