Find the fruits of history in this ancient city turned seaside resort.
Surrounded by mountains, hills, and plains, the coastal city of Annaba was originally established by the Romans as Hippo. But today, many call it the Land of the Jujubes, for the the abundance produced by the fertile fields around the city. Admirers of Moorish architecture would delight in visiting the Saint Augustine basilica (the entrance is free, but it is recommended to take a tour), and WWII enthusiasts have a chance to visit the war cemetery of Bone, a memorial to the British soldiers located just outside the city (free entrance). Of course, you can also see its ancient origins at the ancient Roman ruins at the foot of the basilica. Throughout the city, you'll also find a number of Don’t artisan shops where you can get a handmade souvenir. Of course, as a coastal city, you also have a number of beaches where you can just kick back, or walk along Green Main Street, a bustling promenade known for its nightlife.
