Historical reenactors bring major periods of Dutch history to life in this unique open air museum.
Opened in 1994, Archeon is something between a museum and an amusement park, where different historical ages are brought to life. Visitors can learn about man’s hunter/gatherer ancestors in the Prehistoric Times section of the park, where it’s possible to ride a canoe carved from a tree, try hunting with a spear, see how metal objects were created in the Bronze Age. In the Roman town called Trajectum ad Rhenum, guests can do as the Romans do, and head to the temple for spiritual guidance, or relax in the soothing baths. In the afternoon, gladiators fight in the arena for your amusement. In the medieval town of Gravendam, visitors are transported back to the 14th century, where the town craftsmen go about their business in the traditional way. Visitors can try rustically baked bread, or get a trim at the town barber.
