Arundel Castle and Gardens

This stupendous castle has been home to the Dukes of Norfolk for 1000 years, and is filled with the amazing artefacts they’ve accrued through the centuries.

About

Established in the 11th century by one of William the Conqueror’s most loyal barons, Arundel Castle has been the family home of the Dukes of Norfolk for nearly 1000 years. In the 18th century, the medieval castle was almost entirely rebuilt into a Victorian Gothic mansion, though original elements like the Norman keep. In 1846, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited the castle for 3 days, a special occasion for which new furniture and even a portrait of the Queen were commissioned, and now on display in one of the castle’s bedrooms. Undoubtedly one of England’s grandest country houses, a tour of the castle’s lavish interior showcases the historic artefacts, period furnishings, and amazing art collection accrued by one of England’s most prominent noble families. The stupendous gardens surrounding the castle showcase a variety of flora, with each section meticulously managed and manicured. Please note: the castle is closed on Mondays.
